KOMS on a study visit to Latvia

In the period between November 13 and 17, in Riga, Latvia was held a study visit.

Young representatives from several umbrella associations took part in this visit of:

  • National Youth Council of Macedonia (NMSM);
  • Estonian Union of Youth Associations (ENL);
  • Latvian Youth Council (LJP);
  • Slovak Youth Council (RMS);
  • National Youth Council of Serbia (KOMS).

As part of their visit to Riga, they visited the Latvian Youth Council (LJP), visited two organizations in their membership (“Piedzivojuma Gars” and “FreeRiga”). The first member organization is located in a once neglected part of the city where they created their own commune from a series of abandoned houses and buildings where everyone contributes in different ways: through cultural events, music concerts, art exhibitions; making bicycles and other furniture, etc. Another organization “FreeRiga” deals with the arrangement of abandoned buildings throughout Riga.

On the second working day of the study visit to Latvia, the participants of the visit were in the premises of the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia, where they discussed the projects and processes carried out by the Ministry within the framework of youth policy, as well as their relationship with HR. Also, they shared mutual experiences and current situations in each country from which the partner organization comes.

The second part of the second working day of the study visit to Latvia in the premises of the HRD was about the EU youth goals from the perspective of Latvia. The work of the European Youth Year in Latvia was presented and the participants shared experiences from their countries.

On the third day of the study visit to Latvia (November 16, 2022), we attended the conference “Latvia in the eyes of young people”, where it was presented what was done in Latvia from the aspect of youth policy in the previous year. After the opening remarks, a speech was given by a representative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia. Then work in working groups was determined.

The study visit was organized within the Erasmus + project “Youth Empowerment Incubator”, supported by the European Union.
