From Monday, June 27 to Saturday, July 2, 2022, an event called Youth Action Week – Democracy Now! took place in Strasbourg, France which is part of the “Democracy Here / Democracy Now” campaign whose goal is the revitalization of democracy in Europe.
The event was attended by national delegations from 46 member countries of the Council of Europe, which included representatives of youth and civil society, as well as representatives of institutions dealing with youth issues.
This event marked 50 years since the establishment of the youth sector within the Council of Europe, as a result of which one of the goals of the event itself was to symbolically come up with 50 recommendations for improving democracy and the position of young people, which are aimed at decision makers at the national level.
Event was centred around the four main themes of the Youth Action week and includes but is not limited to the following recommendations:
- Revitalising democracy and access to rights
- Meaningful youth participation
- Digitalisation
- Peacebuilding
The goal of Youth Action Week was, among others, to discuss and deepen understanding of current challenges and attacks on democracy and the impact of these challenges on youth and society as a whole; to plan activities, projects and interventions in the youth campaign with a special focus on the revitalization of democracy, youth participation and digitization and to encourage joint action and cooperation within the Democracy Here – Democracy Now campaign at local, national and international levels.
