The National youth council of Serbia (KOMS) has successfully organized the first Dialogue with young deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. The dialogue was held on November 18 at 6 pm in the premises of the Center for Cultural Decontamination in a hybrid mode – young people had the opportunity to send questions to MPs via online forms, and the MPs gave answers in a live broadcast, which viewers had the opportunity to follow on the Facebook and YouTube channels of KOMS.
Deputies Uglješa Marković and Nándor Kiss took part in the dialogue which was moderated by Milica Borjanić, the program coordinator at KOMS. The dialogue covered four topics – unemployment, the education system, distrust in institutions and the small influence of young people on the decision-making processes.
Nándor Kiss, a representative of the parliamentary group of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, says that he will focus on working with national minorities, but that he also sees great importance in dealing with the politics of the entire country in which he was born. He wants to contribute to solving the key problems the citizens of Serbia face, especially the issue of education: the fact that young people do not have the opportunity to use and apply the knowledge they have gathered – to find an adequate job after leaving the education system.
Uglješa Marković, a representative of the Socialist Party of Serbia parliamentary group, says that his ambition was to engage in social work that can contribute to improving the situation of the whole society, and says that he wants the voice of young people and their problems and needs to be heard in the Assembly, although he will dedicate his mandate to all citizens.
When asked what they think about the formation of the Youth Committee in the Assembly, Uglješa sees the implementation of this initiative as possible and thinks that this historical maximum of young people who make up the Assembly is an ideal situation for implementing this process. Nandor, on the other hand, would not organize a special committee for that, but would provide a place for a youth representative in each committee, so that they would have the opportunity to vote for all problems.
With the strong initiative of the KOMS team, cooperation was achieved with young MPs, which, as Milica Borjanić claims, represents only the beginning of a long-term cooperation and dialogue with a large number of young people in the new convocation of the National Assembly.
